Waterstof: op weg naar eenCO2-vrije toekomst in Europa

Europees congres over waterstof

Om zijn doelstelling van klimaatneutraliteit te bereiken, moet Europa zijn energietransitie en de ontwikkeling van waterstof op alle niveaus - regionaal, nationaal en Europees - versnellen. Ze moet ook de samenwerking versterken tussen aangrenzende gebieden die gezamenlijk geconfronteerd worden met de problemen van waterstofproductie, -opslag, -transport en -verbruik.

Van januari tot juni bekleedt Frankrijk het voorzitterschap van de Raad van de Europese Unie. Deze strategische periode voor Frankrijk valt voor Grand Est samen met het Franse voorzitterschap van de "Grande Region", een samenwerkingsgebied dat de Grand Est met verschillende aangrenzende gebieden associeert (Wallonië, Luxemburg, Saarland, enz.). Zij wil ook een nieuwe ambitie bevorderen voor samenwerking binnen het "Rijn-Maasbekken", met de regio's van de Benelux, Rijn-Duitsland en Zwitserland. Op deze verschillende niveaus (transnationaal, macro-regionaal, Europees) heeft Frankrijk een kans om de energietransitie te versnellen en de samenwerking ten gunste van de ontwikkeling van waterstof, over de grenzen heen, te versterken.

Het evenement "Waterstof: op weg naar eenCO2-vrije toekomst in Europa?" wordt gesteund door de Franse ambassade in België en Grand Est-Europe, het collectief van eenentwintig publieke actoren uit de regio Grand Est in Brussel(lokale overheden, universiteiten, consulaire kamers).

Het wordt georganiseerd in samenwerking met la Maison Irène et Frédéric Joliot-Curie en de Vertegenwoordiging van de deelstaat Baden-Württemberg bij de EU, met de steun van de Franse Ambassades in Zwitserland en Duitsland, de Franse Instituten in Luxemburg en Nederland en Campus France. Ook andere partners zullen aan het project bijdragen. Dit evenement draagt ten volle bij tot de Europese debatten en versterkt de leidende rol van Frankrijk bij de versterking van de regionale samenwerking met het oog op de totstandbrenging van een Europees waterstof-ecosysteem. 

Aan dit evenement, dat door het ministerie van Ecologische Transitie officieel als evenement van het Franse voorzitterschap van de Europese Unie is bestempeld, nemen deskundigen op het gebied van fundamenteel waterstofonderzoek, vertegenwoordigers van clusters, concurrentieclusters en financieringsinstanties, alsmede regionale, nationale en Europese politieke vertegenwoordigers en leiders deel. Tinne Van der Straeten, Belgisch federaal minister van Energie, zal het evenement openen, terwijl Mariya Gabriel, Europees commissaris voor Onderzoek en Innovatie, het evenement zal afsluiten. 

Concreet wordt het evenement georganiseerd gedurende twee dagen, maandag 16 en dinsdag 17 mei 2022, in Brussel :

- Het eerste deel, in samenwerking met la Maison Irène et Frédéric Joliot-Curie (ex-CLORA), zal betrekking hebben op het wetenschappelijke aspect van de Europese samenwerking over de grenzen heen op het gebied van waterstof.
- Het tweede deel, dat betrekking heeft op de politieke en economische samenwerking, zal gebaseerd zijn op wetenschappelijke uitwisselingen en twee rondetafelgesprekken omvatten : één over de samenwerking binnen la Grande Région, het andere in het Rijn-Maasbekken.

Frans en Engels, met Duits als aanvulling voor de plenaire sessies op de 17e, en Engels voor de sessie van 4 workshops met onderzoekers.

Four simultaneous workshops, held by the designated chairmen and rapporteurs. They are members of the scientific community and will represent Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The main issues will be as follows: What are the emblematic undergoing actions in your regions? What are the major current scientific challenges in this research field, and what kind of action or support could prove to be useful? Conclusions of these workshops will be discussed in the political session.

H2 project

In the context of the conference « Hydrogen: how to decarbonise Europe together, beyond borders? » which will take place on the 16th and 17th of May 2022 in Brussels (more information here), you are invited to present your hydrogen projects that work towards the transformation of the territory to all the participants of the event. The event will bring together politics, decision-makers, researchers, companies and hydrogen specialists… The representatives of the selected projects will have the opportunity to present them on the 17th of May during the walking lunch, from 12:00 to 13:45.

To be eligible, the project must:
- be about hydrogen
- have an impact on the development of the territory
- be part of the « Rhine-Meuse Basin » (Grand-Est, Benelux, Rhin Germany and Switzerland)
- it can be a research, infrastructure, business or administration project.
